The annual Stomach Churn treats riders to a beautiful Humboldt Short Track course that includes forest and meadow sections. The course sits atop Alder Grove Road in Arcata California off Giuontoli Blvd. Mother nature has made this circuit a rewarding challenge for all riders with a mix of technical, open sections, climbs and descents. There will be a half hour and a one hour race on the large circuit as well as an E-Bike race, with a free kids race at half time on a portion of the large circuit. The day will conclude with the annual Humboldt World Micro Slalom Championships! Adult and Junior event entry includes lunch and beverages. Awards will go to the top three in each category, with cash prizes for the top three overall female and male riders in each acoustic race. After countless days of heavy rains over Northern California, the 2023 Stomach Churn was blessed with a beautiful sunny day, and track conditions improving into the afternoon. The challenge was real, as was the fun! Great racing and riding was on exhibit in the short track races, with a little dollar grab action thrown in to help inspire. For the first time in Stomach Churn, and Humboldt County, history we hosted a dual slalom after the short track races. The conditions and track were a treat for all who participated, plastering huge smiles on the faces of riders of all ages.

A tremendous thank you to the RCMBA timing team of Errin and Travis, it was exciting and rewarding to test and execute with a new timing system this year!

Papa Wheelies Pub from McKinleyville served up delicious soup and sandwiches that helped fuel the party into the afternoon, thanks Scott for showing up big with food and refreshments for the riders!

Thank you Revolution Bicycle and Adventures Edge for your continued support of the Stomach Churn with fantastic prizes and equipment! You help make this event a success.

Arcata Scoop generously provides ice cream cones for all participants in the Stomach Churn Kid’s Race, thanks for helping make this magic! Every year I’m sure we help make some lasting memories for young riders.

Super Surk Snack stepped up this year with a super generous unsolicited donation of awesome bars for the event! Huge thanks for kicking down big, the bars were delicious and everyone was impressed with the generosity.

Redwood Curtain Brewery also elevated the event with their donation of fresh brew for the day. We are so grateful for your support and to have artisans like yourselves just down the road!

And thanks to all the friends and family that helped chip in some one way or another, from raking grass to donating equipment, the event wouldn’t be the same without your support. Thanks to the community for continuing to support these good times, I look forward to many more.

Round three was nothing short of a Mega Day. Wild stages, big transitions and incredible scenery made this round one to remember. Proud and impressed with everyone for sticking it out and keeping the vibes high. Tracks were amazing, with more riders going blind into the unknown than any ride before. It was a gorgeous day for the 2022 Stomach Churn. Days of sun leading up to the race had dried some sections, though racers still encountered an overall slippery track thanks to the heavy early winter rains. Attendance was strong, competition was tight and spirits were high. Thank you to everyone who came and supported this year’s event, and thank you to our local business supporters Adventure’s Edge, Revolution Bicycle Repair and Papa Wheelie’s Pub. RESULTS – SDES #2 – Paradise Enduro – King’s Range – 2021-12-11

Despite an intimidating weather outlook all week, an inspired group rallied to Saturday’s Pirate Ride on the Paradise Royale Trail in the King’s Range National Conservation Area. With the likelihood of heavy rain increasing into the afternoon, the decision was made to move the planned start forward an hour to 9am and race to beat the rains. Fortunate for those in attendance, nature delayed her machinations well beyond our expectations. Light rain would only begin to tease riders through stage 2, and would not fully arrive until stage 3 was underway. Dry clothes and epic dirt through the first two stages were capped off by some welcome mud and splatters and on the short, sweet and swoopy stage 3 back to the campground. The ride roup was great, competition was friendly and tight, and the vibes were high. Thanks to all who attended as well as those who supported this adventure in spirit. The Paradise Enduro delivered and we had a fantastic time. Will certainly be planning an encore presentation of this one some time in the spring when the sun returns.

Fall 2021 Pirates returned in force to Tish Tang for the long observed Día de los Muertos ride. The return was marked with strong attendance, high spirits, costumes and a blessed sunny break in the weather. 58 riders logged times and posted a cumulative 185 laps! With so much traffic the trail was riding superbly into the afternoon, as the sun’s warmth continued to improve the slippery conditions that had defined the morning’s session. Below are your times, if you care to bring any typos, mis calcs or mis classed riders to our attention we’d be happy to correct it. There were so many laps that we filled up one of the stop watch’s split history! Don’t recall that ever happening before. Appreciate the support and patience for old school timing and honor system based competition, it’s a refreshing change of pace.
It’s great to see so many of the riders improve their times through the day. The Tish Tang course’s smooth consistency is a unique experience to lap repeatedly. Small and steady refinements defined the improvements of many through the day. Improving our pace, eliminating mistakes and probing that limit is what it’s all about, and this trail welcomes riders to do just that like no other.
Times were excitingly close across the board, with fun competition at all levels. E-Bikes made the list for the first time in this ride’s history, adding a perfect compliment to the day’s flavor. Great to have everyone out riding and hanging together. We look forward to another ride soon!
